NIT Rourkela’s class of 2024 achieved an average annual salary of Rs 12.89 lakh, with B Tech students averaging Rs 14.05 lakh. The campus hosted 342 companies, and 53 students received offers exceeding Rs 30 lakh. Core sector jobs dominated, accounting for over 50% of the placements.
The class of 2024 at the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela achieved an average annual salary of Rs 12.89 lakh, with students from the flagship B Tech program securing an average salary of Rs 14.05 lakh. According to a statement from the institute, 53 students received annual packages exceeding Rs 30 lakh during this placement season.
Overall, the institute garnered over 1,300 job offers, including six-month internships that led to pre-placement offers (PPOs).
Three students secured offers ranging between Rs 80 lakh and Rs 1.20 crore annually.
This season’s placement drive attracted over 342 companies to the campus, with nearly 40% being first-time recruiters, according to the statement. The core sector emerged as the leading recruiter, accounting for over 50% of the offers. The electronics and instrumentation engineering department recorded the highest average CTC at Rs 19.08 lakh per annum. The computer science and engineering, and electronics and communication engineering departments followed closely with average CTCs of Rs 18.31 lakh and Rs 18 lakh, respectively.
“By adopting a student-centric approach to teaching and guidance, we enhance their capabilities and bolster their prospects of securing coveted internships and employment opportunities. It is noteworthy that many students, guided by their evolving priorities, are opting for pursuits such as advanced studies, research endeavors, or entrepreneurial ventures over lucrative job offers,” said K Umamaheshwar Rao, director of NIT Rourkela.

“Our institution remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing talent, fostering innovation, and promoting entrepreneurship, which is pivotal in shaping these remarkable achievements,” Rao added.
The institute achieved an 82.3% placement rate in its flagship B Tech program, with the ceramic engineering department seeing 100% placement and the mining engineering department achieving over 95%. Seven departments—computer science & engineering, electronics & instrumentation engineering, electronics & communication engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, and metallurgical & materials engineering—secured nearly 90% placement, according to the statement.

The average CTC for Integrated M.Sc and M.Sc students increased by 50% compared to the previous year, reaching nearly Rs 12.8 lakh per annum. “The overall placement record for the institute across all branches was approximately 70%, a remarkable achievement in the current challenging job market,” the statement noted.
