NEET UG 2024 is scheduled for the upcoming Sunday, May 5, 2024. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued exam day guidelines along with the hall ticket and city intimation slip. Students are urged to prepare all necessary documents in advance to ensure a smooth experience on NEET Exam Day.

NEET 2024 has seen a notable increase in registrations, rising from 20.87 lakhs in 2023 to 24 lakhs in 2024. Across all states, a total of 91,927 seats have been allocated for NEET 2024, comprising 48,012 government college seats and 43,915 private college seats. Starting from 2024, there will be no provision for migration to other medical institutions after passing the 1st year MBBS examination.

Since 2021, the NEET Exam Structure has undergone multiple revisions. According to the latest NTA NEET Exam Pattern, candidates must attempt two sections: Section A, consisting of 35 questions, and Section B, which includes 15 questions, with 10 questions being mandatory.

What is NEET ?

NEET, or the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, serves as an All India Entrance Exam for pre-medical studies. It’s designed for students aiming to pursue primary medical training overseas, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate medical programs in India, including MBBS, BDS, and MD courses. Administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA), NEET results are forwarded to State Counseling Authorities and the Directorate General of Health Services, under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, for seat allocation.

NEET 2024 comprises two main categories: NEET UG and NEET PG. NEET UG 2024 is mandatory for candidates aspiring to pursue undergraduate medical courses like MBBS and BDS, while NEET PG is required for those aiming for postgraduate courses such as MD and MS.

The NEET 2024 admit card became available for download on May 1, 2024, via the official website exams.nta.ac.in/NEET. It is provided in PDF format and can only be accessed by registered candidates using their username, password, or date of birth. Additionally, the NTA released city intimation slips on April 24, 2024, specifying the exam center location for NEET 2024. These slips assist candidates in planning their travel arrangements accordingly.

The NEET 2024 syllabus has been revamped, featuring 20 physics units, 10 biology units, and 20 chemistry units, totaling 79 chapters. The biology syllabus covers botany and zoology from both class 11 and 12 NCERT. Physics and chemistry syllabi also align with NCERT curriculum, with additional resources recommended for thorough preparation. The chemistry syllabus includes inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry topics from class 11 & 12 NCERT, with nine units removed.

The NEET 2024 exam features 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) to be completed in 3 hours and 20 minutes. The total marks for the exam are 720, with each correct answer earning candidates 4 marks and each incorrect answer resulting in a deduction of 1 mark. There is no penalty for unattempted questions. Starting from section B, candidates have the flexibility to choose any 10 questions out of 15.

To be eligible for NEET 2024, candidates must meet certain criteria:

1. Educational Qualification: Candidates should have passed their 10+2 board exams with an average aggregate score of 50% or above, or an equivalent CGPA, from a recognized board. However, candidates from reserved categories have relaxed criteria:
– OBC/SC/ST: 40%
– PWD: 40%
They must have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects.

2. Age Limit: Candidates must be at least 17 years old to appear for NEET 2024.

3. Nationality: Only Indian citizens are eligible for NEET 2024. Additionally, NRIs, OCIs, or PIOs are also eligible to apply.

4. Number of Attempts: There are no restrictions on the number of attempts for NEET 2024.

 5. Top-tier Colleges Eligibility: Admission to MBBS, BDS, and other medical courses is solely based on NEET 2024 scores. While cutoffs may vary by college, top-ranked medical institutions typically have high cutoff percentiles. Additionally, entrance exams may be followed by group discussions and personal interviews.

These criteria outline the basic requirements for aspiring candidates to pursue NEET in 2024.

The registration for NEET 2024 is now closed. Initially scheduled from February 9 to March 16, the application window was reopened for two days, April 9 and 10, 2024, due to candidate requests. Currently, no new registrations are being accepted on the official website. Only those who successfully completed the NEET 2024 application process and submitted fees within the specified timeframe are eligible to appear for the exam.
