The harrowing ordeal led to extensive damage to the building, with flames engulfing much of the structure and causing a section of the roof to collapse.

Tragically, among the casualties are children, heightening the severity of the situation, while the Russian foreign ministry has unequivocally condemned the incident as a “terrorist attack.”

An online statement, yet to be verified, attributed the attack to the militant group Islamic State.

According to US officials who spoke with CBS, the American partner of the BBC, intelligence indicated that IS had expressed intentions to target Russia. The White House disclosed that it had alerted Russia earlier in the month regarding potential plans for an attack in Moscow aimed at “large gatherings.”

In response to the crisis, Russia’s National Guard deployed specialized units to the scene to apprehend the perpetrators, while senior Russian officials rushed to Krasnogorsk.

Two weeks prior to the attack, the US embassy issued a warning advising American citizens to avoid large gatherings, citing monitoring reports indicating that “extremists were preparing to target large gatherings in Moscow.” On Friday evening, the embassy updated its advisory, urging US citizens to steer clear of the vicinity of the attack.
