Raheem Sterling marked a stellar second-half performance for Chelsea, inspiring the 10-man Blues to a triumphant home clash against Leicester.
Both squads entered the match following disappointing defeats in the previous weekend, prompting Thomas Tuchel, who was serving a touchline ban, to make adjustments to the formation while maintaining the core personnel.
The game took an unexpected turn when Conor Gallagher received a red card within the first half-hour for impeding two Leicester counter-attacks. Despite this setback, Sterling showcased his talent by netting two goals for Chelsea, lifting spirits at Stamford Bridge. Although Harvey Barnes quickly retaliated for the Foxes, Chelsea managed to secure the win, propelling them back into the top half of the Premier League standings.
Following a humiliating defeat at Leeds in their previous match, Tuchel refrained from making significant changes to the starting lineup, aside from the absence of the suspended Kalidou Koulibaly. Trevoh Chalobah was given a starting role.
In a departure from the usual 3-4-3 formation, Tuchel opted for a 4-2-2-2 setup, with Gallagher deployed as one of the sitting midfielders. However, the English midfielder struggled with the added defensive duties, receiving two quick yellow cards. This left Leicester with an advantage, playing against 10 men for the majority of the match as they sought their first Premier League victory of the season.
