The Ministry of External Affairs Internship (MEA Internship 2024) has introduced the second edition of its internship program for the year 2023-24. This initiative aims to provide meaningful engagement and practical experience to interns while enhancing gender inclusivity and diversity in terms of qualifications, domicile, and socio-economic background.
Stipend and Travel Provisions
Selected interns will receive an honorarium of INR 10,000 per month to cover basic expenses. Additionally, the MEA will cover the cost of a one-time round-trip air travel, subject to a ceiling of the prevailing economy class airfare, between the intern’s state capital and Delhi. Interns will need to arrange for their accommodation and meals during their internship period in Delhi.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the MEA Internship 2024, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Citizenship: Must be an Indian citizen.
- Educational Qualification: Should possess a graduate degree from a recognized university. Students in their final year of graduation, where an internship is a mandatory part of their curriculum, are also eligible.
- Age Limit: Candidates should not be older than 25 years as of 31 December of the year of the internship.
Selection Procedure for MEA Internship 2024
The selection process for the Ministry Of External Affairs Internship is entirely online and managed through a dedicated portal at www.internship.mea.gov.in. The process includes:

Selection follows a quota-cum-weightage system, ensuring representation from various states and union territories. There are reserved slots for applicants from 14 states, 4 union territories, and special consideration for candidates from TADP districts and underprivileged sections. Additionally, at least 30% of the slots are reserved for women candidates.
Internship Experience
During the internship, selected candidates will be exposed to various aspects of the MEA’s functioning, including its attached offices, public interface, and its role in assisting Indian citizens.
Termination of Internship
Internships are subject to security clearances, and the MEA reserves the right to terminate any internship without prior notice. Interns may also choose to terminate their internship by providing a one-week notice, in which case the cost of air travel, if any, will be recovered.
