Guru Purnima 2024: Time and Shubh Muhurat

According to Drik Panchang, the Purnima Tithi will begin at 5:59 PM on July 20 and conclude at 3:46 PM on July 21. Guru Purnima, also known as Vyasa Purnima, is observed on the birth anniversary of Veda Vyasa, the revered author and character of the Hindu epic Mahabharata.

Guru Purnima 2024: Rituals

According to Buddhism, on Guru Purnima, Gautam Buddha delivered his first sermon to his initial five followers, forming the sangha or community of disciples. For Hindus, the day begins early with puja dedicated to the Maha Guru. The Maha Guru is remembered and his teachings cherished through the recitation of the Maha Gita. The rituals include offerings of flowers, gifts, prasad, and charanamrita. Ashrams dedicated to Veda Vyasa observe the day with Sandalwood pujas.
